Hi

Im part of a Gold DofE group planning to do some of the Haute trecking route starting just west of Arrola to Zermatt.

In the route we have planned, out practice takes us to the west Of Arrola around and possible over a glacier (name known at present but will come back with that one). I wondered if anyone had any experience or ideas of the best way to tackle this bit of the route and the steep ladder section, possibly with full packs!! Im looking hopefully on information and prices of hiring a guide from the hut to the west side of the glacier to complete the small section.

Please help with any advice,
Tasha

In reply to Tasha: The glacier W of the Pas de Chevres (the one with the ladders) is usually dry in summer up to the Dix hut. Where are you going from the hut? There's a good track up to the pass. The ladders are ok, about 70ft high.

In reply to MattG: I meant, there's a good track to the pass on the arolla side, it's a bit rough but still a walk on the glacier side
