Can anyone please tell me what the midges/sandflys are like in Lofoten during june/july time, especially around the campsites? Planning a longish trip there this year and just wanted to know how bad they were there.
Cheers

You won't believe it (no one ever does) but we have had zero problem with any kind of biting insect in our multiple visits.

Apparently they do get rather aggressive 'klegs' for a short period end of June/start of July, but we haven't been there then.

The classic horrendous Scottish/Stanage conditions don't seem to exist - which is nice!

In reply to Chris Craggs: Thanks for that - sounds good.
In reply to Dr Soft: Just don't wear aftershave or perfume. Many contain phermones that atract bity things.

AKA: Horseflies. You hear them break the skin with an audible crack! Its pretty sore, but luckily they are pretty slow and it sounds like a WW2 aircraft buzzing around when they are nearby.... swat em!

In reply to Dr Soft: Been in July and August on a number of occasions and can't ever remember having any problems. You are always so close to the coast so they don't seem to be an issue. Stop in inland Lapland on your way up though and you'll soon meet more than you want!

We came across a few mosquitoes when we were there in June a couple of years ago. Not enough of them to be a problem, but they were huge! Managed to bite through a fairly thick fleece.
