Planning to head to the pass at the weekend but one of or climbing partners has bailed out so we are now a three. Does anyone have any recommendations of single pitch routes we could do (as we dont want to multi pitch as a three) vs/hvs ? Or which crag would be the best to ab down after the first pitch.

Many thanks

In reply to Inca: Brant Direct, not much else. You are going to the wrong place for the wrong reasons.

Surely muti-pitching as a three doesnt have to be slow? Have you got an guide-plate style device?

In reply to Inca: Black Crag / Craig Ddu bottom of the pass, or stuff on the small crag up the road from the Cromlech and another roadside crag directly opposite.

Why not just pick multi pitch routes with big stances and you wont be much slower than a pair?

Agreed. I did Puig Campana as a three. The only thing was that as we all wanted a turn at leading it took some thought at each belay stance to avoid getting the ropes into a muddle, but we coped and got it done before dusk - just! Had to do the airy traverse descent route in the failing light which nearly became an epic.

Obviously 2 is better but if you are going to Wales with so much good multi pitch stuff why restrict yourselves to single pitch?

In reply to Inca: Thanks for the words of wisdom folks, yep the only routes I can think of is Brant Direct and cenotph Corner.......

There was four of us to begin with so the plan was to multi pitch but someone has bailed out and the reason for going was to gain experience for the others on multi pitch.....

Thanks for Puig Campana suggestion I'll bear that in mind....... problem is they wont climb as a three and I'am unlikely to change their minds .........

We are not exactly the quickest of climbers either

thanks folks

In reply to Inca: Are you limited to the Pass? There's other stuff around if you have transport (or are willing to use the buses).

In reply to Touching Centauri: Have transport, yes. Dont know the area to well though but will be camping in Llanberis

In reply to Inca: If you're camping in Llanberis you could head to the slate quarries, plenty of single pitch there! Not masses at VS/HVS but there's now lots of sport routes at friendly grades, can get busy though. Seamstress is good at VS. It's no good there in the wet but it dries really quickly.

If you have transport head over to Holyhead Mountain, lots of single pitch routes to suit you`r grade there !
