Can anyone suggest any crags on the West coast of Scotland that can be approached by kayak? Planning a bit of sea kayaking for August and though some climbing could be included. Not keen on kayaking to St kilda though!

In reply to hmac84: You could kayak to Rubha Coigach area of Reiff http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=455 , either from beach at old campsite, or from Reiff itself. Be a lot more pleasant than the walk in through bog and stream!

It seems most Scottish crags this weekend will be best approached by kayak....

Not NW, but loads of interesting stuff best accessed by Kayak immediately North Of Latheronwheel south of Wick

In reply to urban warrior: Mid Clyth? Could be good, but not sure about convenient landing spots.

How about anything around Loch Scavaig/Coruisk on Skye? Tons to go at there.....

spent a while kayaking the hebrides out of plockton, off skye, torridon etc. f**ken incredible place.
definitely take some gear.
cant give you any specific names but theres miles of boat-only access rock. be bloody careful tho - have an accident out there and its as long as it gets in britain getting back to civilization.

Not sure it is "best accessed" by Kayak and might want to be flat calm.

I soloed a few routes on a small island just off Portskerra (one of which is in the North Highlands (North) guide) and approached this by Kayak, there are also a couple of interesting islands just past Bettyhill and before Tongue but I can't do the Gaelic spelling.

When kayaking, no matter how cold it gets, don't try to get a fire started. The kayak will sink.

Its well known that you can't have your kayak and heat it.

Where's that coat?

Macleod's maidens off skye need a boat don't they? Adventurous, so only if sea stacking's particularly your bag. Also sounds as good a way as any to get into Coruisk

In reply to hmac84: Erraid on the Ross of Mull is the obvious one. Reiff or the Summer Isles, or any islands on West coast - Eigg would be good.
Cheers
