Happy Christmas

Yep, need to look for somewhere for the Christmas bash for those interested before all places are booked up.

Anyone got a preference for an area, and before or after Christmas. Bunkhouse, hostel or hotel, a block booking in the last may be quite cheap.

Post on here if interested with preferences please.

In reply to sutty:

I'd be interested in attending: don't know about Mrs Y.

North of England is good

Don't mind assisting with food if we are bunkhouse / hostelling.

OP sutty 18 Jul 2009
In reply to teflonpete:

There are usually about 30% newbies at all meets, churning people who are then well known enough to set up their own meets and contacts.

Socialising is needed, climbing, walking, cycling etc are optional.

Just so long as you do not decide to bivvi 10 ft from the top of a route as seemed to happen last year because it was a bit hard.

Don't know if you have any scouting contacts in the likely group. If you do, you may be able to book a fantastic hut which sleeps about 20 just over the river at Ilkley. Really big kitchen and sitting area, nice clean bedrooms etc.

Hi Sutty

Keen in principle...will depend on dates and kids. Easy regarding location. Given fair chance of wet weather somewhere like Lakes or N. Wales gives more options!

Looking at lakes hostels so far, about £23 a day BB and Royal Vic in Llanberis at £25 a day BB off season.

http://bookings.legacy-hotels.co.uk/hotel-details&hotel_id=152

Still looking for Lakes Hotels at decent rates for groups, and YHA rent a hostel but it is weekend with no staff on from offices I should think.

With hotels it is easier for families as well than places like Lofthouse.

Given the downturn I am hoping for good rates from where I book, no expecting good rates. Turning down a £1000 plus turnover will be hard,

Hello there - I thought this was going to be a reference to your anecdote about a small child calling you 'Mr Christmas' when you were with 'full beard'!

I expect to be free for at least a couple of the weekends immediately prior to Christmas, so count me as a possibility
Definately not free after Christmas (ski-ing).

My immediate first thought for a venue (West End Outdoor centre) is probably too small and too isolated for thisuse.

Got your wife down on the list. Funkynick has the pinny with the boobs on I think.

Got the booking form today, information on it says only 36 places at table at once to eat, plus easy chairs and settee.

No sleeping bags needed, all bedlinen provided. Just need your own towels for washroom.

kitchen has two domestic sized cookers, two fridges but no mention of freezers. Need to speak with warden about large pans and trays for oven.

Thanks, Keith, you're right- it has been 10 months almost to the day. Often go up to where I buried her- and always a damp experience! Hoping that this one will keep me occupied, although I know that I will never be as close to her as I was to my Teal. Oh look, I'm off again- every flipping time I think of Teal, I go all weepy. Lesley & I will have to pass on this one I'm afraid, too much driving for too little time as I can't leave Aberdeen before 6pm Friday & would have to be back by 7pm Sunday, via stops in Glasgow. A shame as it would have been good to catch up with some familiar faces & meet up with new ones. Hope you all have a good time.

Just a quickie can you confirm...

a) 11th - 13th december are the dates?
b) Is there any space for 2 or 3 more people?
c) if no space - are we ok to find somewhere else to doss down and just meet up during the days?

Have done so. no need to write it in blood, or invisible ink.

I need an invigilator to help me do a recount of who is coming now. My cat keeps booking people from the Alpine club in as it reckons they are the only people who can climb trees as well as her.

In reply to sutty:

Climbingpixie, are you coming? James said he thought you were on the reserve list when I have you confirmed.
Bingly Bong 20 Oct 2009
In reply to sutty: I'd email her if I were you - tis very doubtful that she'll look in here and she hasn't posted on UKC for over a week.

In reply to sutty:

Do you reckon the beds would allow for sharing? They look reasonable on the pictures.
Yrmenlaf 20 Oct 2009
In reply to waterbaby:

That, Sutty, sounds like a good offer.

In reply to Yrmenlaf:

lol! I was going to see if Mr WB would like to come and meet my friends.
Yrmenlaf 20 Oct 2009
In reply to waterbaby:

Well, Mrs Y. is coming to meet mine (as she did last year)!

Y.
OP sutty 20 Oct 2009
In reply to waterbaby:

Will get back to you on that. Unfortunately we can still only have 40 people even if you share apart from the cots.

I will mail the three undecided and check if they have time off or not to release beds.

In reply to John Lewis:

Well it it may ensure more trips away or less trips away. Only WB knows her hubby well enough to say.
In reply to John Lewis:

Hey sutty, I think I had better play safe and say that at this point, I'm not going to be able to make it. My company has been bought out, and things are changing rapidly and dramatically, so not sure what the state of play is going to be come Christmas...
