I've been recommended this procedure to cure my golfers elbow injury that's been ongoing for nearly two years. I've had all the injections, including prolotheraphy, done all excercises and treatments that are usually recommended and it just wont go away. I see from the archive that at least a couple of peps have had this done but there's nothing there that talks about whether it was a success or not. Anyone got any experience on this (good or bad) that they can share?
Thanks.
David.

In reply to David Bennett:

I had this operation 18 months ago after trying everything else.I had tennis elbow and I tried physio, acupuncture, had my wrist & elbow in splints and numerous injections over the months. Nothing worked so when the last injection wore off I went and asked to see a specialist to see if anything else could be done. He said that if the injections weren't lasting then the next route would be surgery to release the tendon.
He told me that it would take approx 3 - 4 months for full recovery, to give it time to re-attach but I had got to the point where I was willing to try anything.
It was a total success and I have had no problems with it since.
In reply to David Bennett: I had the op for glofer elbow about 12 years ago. 2 weeks in a traction bandage then a week in a lighter bandage.

After a couple of months, I still couldn't bend it bend it well enough to touch my face. A couple of months' physio didn't seem to work so I was knocked out and they "manipulated" it.

That helped but I gave up with physio and got on with my life, where it went back to full movement after a year.

Last year, I started to have a few problems with it. Plenty of ice and the exercises from the Aussie who's name I can't remember and it's probably as good as it's going to get.

Just before starting to climb, I rub some Ibuleve gel into it and put a tubigrip bandage on.

I do tend to favour a more straight arm technique, but yesterday it was bend it or fall off! I've got no pain today so it must be getting better.

In reply to David Bennett:

I had this op in 2001. The epicondylite had grown fin like in response to too many years crimping and the tendon was pretty blown out. I'd wake with the arm locked and it would take an hour or so of movement before the considerable discomfort receded. It hurt like hell. I had all the other stuff done - other than the steroids they made not a haporth of difference. The epicondylite was shaved down, some connective tissue repair done and several badly healed scars in the tendon 'removed' and the thing all put back together.

It took about six months before I was confident enough to try some training, but strength came back at a gallop and was well worth the wait - outstanding result. An it's still going strong! (my others a bit flaky tho')

So best of luck, hope it works for you as well as it did for me.

Regards,

Steve

In reply to David Bennett: All. Hey guys thanks for the replies, it looks like there's light at the end of the tunnel. Can't tell you how uplifting that is, but then you probably already know!

In reply to David Bennett: I had golfer's elbow and had a flexure release about five years ago. I asked my GP to find a consultant who specialised in elbows (new his elbow from his ar**). To save 9 months wait I paid £800 to have it done privately.

It was in a sling for one week, no lifting for six weeks, then light training for about a month. So I gradually got back on to the rock within about 10 - 12 weeks. No point going trough all of that just to spoil it for the sake of a week or two, so I gradually built up to my former grade. I didn't experience any pain or stiffness during all of this time. I would be very wary about indoor climbing walls during this period.

Since all of that, my elbow has been fine and survived long hours at the Edge and Foundry without any problems. However, I am now just recovering from a big toe operation, not related I don't think.

All the best
Baz
