I've been climbing for a little under a year. Mostly indoors top rope and lead (best is 5c to date), but with occasional forays outdoors. I want to get outdoor more next year (fair weather climber!). Recently I have also been going to the local indoor bouldering wall to build strength and stamina.

My current Red Chilli Spirits are getting somewhat worn now and the crisp edges rounding off. I am in the market for new shoes and have been looking at 5.10 Spire and Boreal Spider.

Anyone with experience of either of these or have other suggestions based on my limited experience? Thanks.

Hey!

The kind of options you're looking for are ideal for your needs. However, Fit is way more important than the model of shoe or type of rubber.

If there's a climbing shop near you it'd be best to go and get some proper advice and get some shoes fitted properly.

Happy climbing,

Oli
In reply to DaveMinsh: I had a pair of Spiders and the ruber and build quality were excellent, although I bought them in too large a size and they then stretched on top of that. Buy them smallish, I had to lace mine so tight they ended up giving me terrible foot cramp. Great shoes nonetheless, probably a bit more technical than the Spire's as well.

Thanks for the feedback, it's been helpful. I live in Bristol which is fairly well served with shops; one specialist climbing shop plus Snow+Rock, Ellis Brigham and others that sell rock shoes. I've just been reading sales info. on web sites before visiting the shops and wanted some user feedback.
