Any suggestions for a good spot to teach basic winter skills (ice axe arrests, crampon technique etc) to a group of amateurs in the Lakes in the current conditions (I haven't been over since December).

Thanks in advance

In reply to Fickalli: Hmm... its starting to get colder. hopefully things should come into condition again, I'm getting out on thursday and saturday to see what the conditions are like, from what I know they're pretty dangerous right now.

Anyway, Blencathra could be good, short walk, choice of easy snow slope to the summit or Sharp edge at grade 1, with lots of steep sections with good run outs to practise arresting.

In reply to Fickalli:

In the past I have used some of the slopes around Red Tarn on Helvelyn they seemed to hold some snow and give some good sliding slopes with some steeper bits higher up for cramponing etc!
Sometimes the area above the Kirkstone pass holds the snow and has some different terrain to practice things on !

In reply to Dan Goodwin - Mountain Plan:

Yeah I was going to suggest Brown Cove / Catsycam.
In reply to Fickalli:

What Dan and Henry said.

In reply to Petarghh: The run outs from Sharp Edge generally prove fatal...
