In reply to Colin Moody:

Nice! Are those ice falls previously done routes at all?

Graeme.

In reply to Graeme Seggie:

Nothing has been climbed on either crag. I've looked at Creag a Ghaill a number of times over the years and I've not seen it as good.

Go for it!

In reply to Colin Moody:

No, out of my leagues just wondered if anyone else had.

Last November I walked a nice coastal route just south of Treshnish Point where there seemed to be a fair bit of rock which looked like it might have potential for routes, do you know if there is much in the way of climbing there? I intent to visit Erraid and round about there some time but wonder if this area could be worthy of a visit too?

Graeme.

In reply to Graeme Seggie:

I've looked at Treshnish Point from time to time and I'm sure it will give a few routes.
Calgary has over fifty short routes, I might write them up on my web site but if not get in touch if you want the info.

In reply to Colin Moody: Thanks for sharing Colin. We went for a look today but none of the lines looked like they would take our body weight on Creag Brimishgon and the lines on Creag a Ghaill were either too thin and steep or incomplete. Worth the drive just for the stunning location however. Pics and vid here: http://alanhalewood.blogspot.com/
Cheers,
Al

In reply to AlH:

Shame you didn't get a route done but you don't sound that worried. That very steep route looks fat from the road.
Brilliant day today, pity it wasn't like that yesterday when I was off.

In reply to Colin Moody: No it was grand to go somewhere new on a stunning day. The dark look of the ice is because there is air behind it and black basalt behind that. Most of it is inch thick columns barely touching or paler rotten stuff, sometimes with useless snow on it. It might have been climbable but there would have been no gear and anything we put weight on was inclined to collapse- and I've pushed my luck plenty already this year on thin ice: http://alanhalewood.blogspot.com/2010/01/slow-thaw-but-we-still-have-seasid...
Cheers,
Al
