I was looking to get new winter boots and also summer hiking boots as mine have seen better days. I have since however suffered a snapped achilles tendon. (Playing football)
Assuming it heals ok, there will always be a nagging doubt in the back of my mind about it whenever I am on the hill.

Can anyone recommend hiking or winter boots that may help to prevent this injury reoccurring.I was wondering if there is a shop that specialises in orthopedic/climbing footwear.

Is anyone out there that has had this injury?

I burst mine about five years ago playing tennis. Like you, I was a bit worried about footwear when I wanted to get back to climbing. There didn't seem to be any specialist footwear available and I had just bought a pair of rock shoes days before, so I just carried on with what I had. Touch wood I have had no problems with the heel since.
Best of luck wih your recovery.

In reply to agray:I don't know of any boots, but I guess the best thing to do is focus on healing well.

Looking into how tension and things in other parts of the leg (and any other causes) can play a part in achilies tendon injuries could be a good idea for when you've recovered again, I think stretching calf muscles is often reccomended to help to sort out achilies tendon strains. I suppose it snapping sounds like it just wasn't strong enough for what you were doing.

Hope you're seeing a good physio and things.

Cheers
Tim
