I'm going to Marburg (Hessen State, Germany) to study for six months next year, so I'm currently doing some background research for walls/training facilities.

I've checked the local DAV website and a fair few other local websites and there doesn't seem to be any reference to any climbing facilities (apart from two shitty looking walls). The nearest decent wall seems to be in Frankfurt (over an hour away).

I know this is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone know anything about climbing walls in the area???

Any info, will be much appreciated

Used to live round there, but that was before I started climbing anyway a quick google providing the following results.

There's a new climbing hall in Wetzlar which is only a short drive/train journey away from Marburg:

also there's an outside wall (free of charge - I think) in Gießen:

For an overview of the climbing outside in Germany see this site:

Hope you have a good time in Marburg despite the somewhat limited climbing there!

In reply to jakes: Hi Jakes,

This isn't a comprehensive list, but it does cover almost all of the walls in Germany:

Viel Glück in Deutschland!

Best,

Jack

Cheers mike,

Some really good online resources there. The wall in Wetzlar looks good and at only 40 mins away is a relief!

You don't happen to have any knowledge of the local 'scene' (if there is one). I'm going to be researching at the University, but can't find any information about any clubs there or ways to get to link up with people/find partners etc. Any recommendations in terms of meeting other climbers?

In reply to jakes: Sorry no ideas there. When I lived there I didn't climb. Maybe the local DAV would be a good starting point. At least in Berlin they have all sorts of climbing groups of different level and ability.

Mike
