Picked up on this on the other channel, Hazel Findlay climbed 69, in Squamish, a 5.13b/c trad climb. First female ascent, pretty impressive!

Good to see the British women crushing! Hardest ever trad ascent by a British women?

There's a little more info on the Climb magazine website:

Seem's like she's a pretty hardcore crack climber.

iirc she is about half an inch shorter than Lynn Hill too! Though I may be getting mixed up with someone else.

indeed - for anyone who missed it the first time round she did the first female ascent of Air Sweden (5.13b R) and flashed Ruby's Cafe (5.13a) at Indian Creek - massively impressive crack skills.

I had missed that. Wow.

She seems to be a bit under the media radar in the UK despite ticking pretty impressive stuff over the water. I wonder what she's ticked over here.

Maybe down to the reporting in just US grades ? I for one wouldn't have a clue how to benchmark this as an achievement or to know whether it was the hardest female trad lead. A bit of context in the reporting helps us more parochial readers (preferably without the use of "send", "wad" or "crush")

Not really. From the last year:

http://www.ukclimbing.com/news/item.php?id=49629
http://www.ukclimbing.com/news/item.php?id=45971

And I believe she is fully profiled in this month's Climb magazine, although I haven't yet seen it myself.

I have dropped her a line about her latest route - sounds amazing.

Hazel is clearly a brilliant climber and going well at the moment.

Cheers,

Jack

Great effort. It's not the hardest trad climb by a British woman, but it's right up there, and there's plenty of time to do more.

On grit?

Apologies, I take it back Jack. I obviously don't read UKC as often as I thought!

Ha ha! Obviously that's the most important but as a lass form the SW, I expect she's bagged some hard stuff down Pembroke way.

Apparently she has onsighted E5 on grit

Really?

8a/8a+ on spaced, very small gear sounds like E8 to me. Which british woman has climbed harder?

Very impressive, plenty of classic E5 onsight with a cheeky E6 in there.

I'd be over the moon with that tick list!

As far as I know:

Lucy Creamer and Karin Magog have both climbed E8 and F8b

Mary Jenner has also climbed E8 this year.

Great effort by Hazel though she is right up there, it might even be the hardest yet

My favourite bit
"Doing a Philosophy degree means that I have a lot of time to climb."

Pretty sure we saw her (or her doppelganger!) put in a cameo appearance at Font last year, I didn't know who she was at the time but she just seemed to outclass every climber I'd seen all week, just on a couple of routes I saw her do.
