I see David Hooper had a grand day mountain biking in the Lakes yesterday: http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?n=428519

It was a cracking day and I saw lots of climbers in Langdale enjoying themselves.

It was also Langdale Horseshoe Fell Race.

Myself, Rimmer and the Morganator left a gray miserable Peak District at 7am yesterday and headed north to the Lakes.

The forecast was good and didn't disappoint.

I think I maybe getting addicted to fell running : o )

I did the Three Shires a few weeks ago and it nearly killed me. I didn't have the legs! Three double digit training runs around Mam Tor and I felt a bit better.

Yesterday was one of the best mountain days I have had for a while.

Here's a few photos I took.

Lot better in the Peak today. Time to climb.
In reply to Mick Ryan - Senior Editor - UKC: Good effort Mick! Looks like it was a lovely day for a run in the hills - great photos.

I'd like to enter some of those Lakes classics next year if I'm fit enough.

Cheers

Nice photos Mick and good to see you.

I was going well until around the bad step, then got terminal cramp in calves and gingerly jogged the rest of the way. What a day though! - always been my favourite race.

Cheers Jonathan

Hope a certain person doesn't look at the caption for the last photo.

Looks fantastic. Please take 'off of' off of one of the captions though. We're not in Essex.

Nice photos. Looks like you enjoyed yourself?
I will send the link to the bloke to annoy him - he did the Pentland Skyline race yesterday and the cloud base was at about 300m from what I could see...

You've missed the "e" off Esk Hause in one caption, and there appears to be a surplus apostrophe in Scafells.

That looks boss - it's kind of on my list for next year, either as a day out or the race.

ah, we wondered what all the activity was whilst slogging up to White Ghyll and almost managing to get benighted....

Looks a stunning day, Saturday wasn't that great in the peak, yesterday was simply stunning at Stanage. looked autumnal but it was very warm under the shelter of the edges.

I've never (a) died so ignominiously in a race and (b) had quite such extensive photographic evidence of the fact. Obviously wearing red and hanging about at the rear is how to get noticed.

It was a magnificent day, though. More photos here with one really magnificent one towards the bottom: http://justusandafewfriends.blogspot.com/2010/10/langdale-horseshoe-fell-ra...

Thanks Mark - I processed a couple of the photos looking west from Bow Fell, including the "lone runner", into B+W and posted them here

Langdale was always a storming event and at around the right time pre Karrimor to judge fitness etc.

We once entered the Snowdon Horshoe race and got obliterated by a World Class field - saw noone for the last hour!

Snowdon race? i.e. from Llanberis? has there ever been a horseshoe race?
