At last it seems climbing helmet manufacturers are waking up to three really important things -
- Climbers won't wear them unless they look cool
- Not all head injuries are sustained from directly ahead
- Helmets need to survive being dropped in the carpark or at the crag.
Before I got into climbing I was heavily involved in horse riding / racing. When I was looking for a climbing helmet I was appalled to see how backwards they were in design. That was about 8 years ago. I spent months looking and eventually found a Casin Astral which I was pleased with. I'm pleased to see manufacturers are at last producing more helmets I can wear without feeling concerned.
(I've lost two of my best friends through head related injury so this is a very important issue to me)
