Gore-tex durability

I have a question about the durability of gore-tex, specifically its water-proofness.

I have a pair of boots with a gore-tex lining and some of the stitching has split on the heel cup, allowing water into the boot, I guess between the leather outer and the gore-tex membrane.

Now my question. The boot now appears to leak and water is getting into the lining, especially on wet days. But I've been wondering if the water is being forced through the membrane by the action of my foot inside the boot particularly in the more rigid heel section.

Or is it more likely that membrane is buggered!?

In reply to pepperpot:

have you tried re-proofing? i.e nikwax/graingers...also if there is a hole then it is more than likely that the water will force its way through the lining, especially if your foot is rubbing against it or there is pressure, this will eventually happen on most things...

In reply to murphdog: also gortex is very waterproof (28k hh i think)...they do have a guarentee that you will stay dry, so if you go on their website you will be able to get the details.
