Beacon Climbing Walls have just finished a major re-vamp of some of the old walls at The Westway.

Already up and running are a new group wall and the reconfiguration of a plywood section near the main entrance. More recently the old fibreglass wall bouldering wall has been removed as well as the panels on the 'Comp Wall' opposite.

The Comp Wall (and the walls to the left) are now plywood giving a great deal more versatility for route setting and also allowing for the use of plenty of Volumes. The height of this wall has been extended by 1m to give a 12m high wall overhanging by a sustained 6m with some great training potential.

The old fibreglass bouldering wall has been replaced by a multifaceted plywood wall aimed at the intermediate climber but also incorporating a steeper cave section which will no doubt sport some harder problems. Holdz are due to fit the matting on the 4th January and the bouldering wall will be opened shortly after this.

Went there for a climb on sunday and was most impressed with the new centre.

Panel 19 - ouch! You can forget sloppy smearing on this panel, it's smooth!

Really like the new slabs in the corner as well & clearly set by a tall comedian
