What are the best make of general walking socks... I like bridgedales but got some brasher socks and not impressed with them.

Used to have some smartwool ones but not seen them for ages

In reply to idiotproof (Buxton MC): Smartwool (liner and main) for me. Main advantage is they don't need to be washed again until the Spring

In reply to idiotproof (Buxton MC): I rate 1000 mile socks with the thin inner built in, well worth the price. They came recommended by some colleagues who are polar adventurers / racers.

In reply to idiotproof (Buxton MC): Smartwool - a lot of places sell these including Cotswolds.
Icebreaker have started selling socks, their Mountianeer ones are better than Smartwool Mountaineer, but so they should be at £2.5 per toe.

In reply to idiotproof (Buxton MC): Field and Trek for Smartwool. Teko are very good too, run by people who used to design for Smartwool. I use Teko these days as I find they last a bit longer than Smartwool and I like the fact they are manufactured using windpower.

I use bridgedales as oversocks, and light weight liners. I just got myself a pair of these

which were lovely under the bridgedales for cold weather.
