[Russian Military Set Off Avalanche With Very Big Gun]
Here the Russian Military set off a huge avalanche using a very big gun.

Luckily no one was injured, but the avalanche gets a bit too close for comfort...

The film was shot by the Russian TV show "My Planet"

Is that lightning at 1.18? Interesting to see that..

In reply to JH74:
I think it overruns a electrical substation of some kind. It's there in the foreground at the start of the video.

I think it's when it trashes the pylon (that is shown earlier in the clip). Not a ski lift as it's fitted with insulators.

Yeah ok I seem to have missed that on first viewing although I did think it was plausible that such a cloud could generate electrical activity.

These soldiers are feckin idiots. Good job they're not in charge of heavy weapons...

Not a stupid suggestion at all. I think electrical activity is often seen in big avalanches.

I think that using artillery is a common method of dealing with loaded avalanche slopes. I'm sure I've seen footage of Americans doing the same in Colarado.

It's probably not common practice to stand in the avalance's runout area to watch the devastation that you've caused, however.

In reply to mcdougal:
In all fairness that was a massive slide, it looked like it stripped off a couple of nearby peaks in addition to the slope they were shelling.

In Soviet Russia, avalanche shoot you!

In reply to Reach>Talent: Indeed, there had been massive snow falls the previous days and the road was closed for almost a week.
