Just shameful climbing porn.

I love it!
 VC Hopper 25 Mar 2011
In reply to UKC News: Terrible song, and very poor and hurried panning.
 Plungeman 25 Mar 2011
In reply to VC Hopper:

...in your opinion. I love it! No idea who it is though, anybody?

In reply to Thoms6974:

'Young Blood' by The Naked and Famous. I like it, meself.
 Calder 25 Mar 2011
In reply to realslyshady:

Yep, I like it too. Some alright pics there too (total understatement!).
 ShaunR 25 Mar 2011
In reply to UKC News: I'd have preferred a simple slide show instead of all the panning, which in my opinion detracted from the photos.

In reply to UKC News:

I thought this was fantastic and made me glad to be a climber living in the UK.
 Yanis Nayu 25 Mar 2011
In reply to UKC News: I'm not really in to climbing photography - these are absolutely superb though.
 John Mcshea 25 Mar 2011
In reply to UKC News:

Really inspiring work Alex, I have much admiration for those who can see, capture and present to others these moment of essence.

Thanks,

John.

In reply to UKC News:

Undeniably some great shots but now we know the Ken Burns effect goes up to 11. Definitely too heavy handed IMO. Stills should be (pretty much) still.
In reply to UKC News:

Well I enjoyed it, some stunning shots. Must have a look at his photos

Thanks everyone. Glad you liked the pics. As for the panning etc, it was originally done for the Arcteryx Open Shot in Sheffield. That was five slideshows shown at about 10pm in a bar..so maybe I did go a bit ott but it was just to grab beered-up attention. That's my excuse anyway, cheers!

In reply to alex:

In fairness to Alex this was his initial brief for the competition:

The judges will assess entries for:
Consistent high quality across a wide range of images (i.e. not just one standout shot).
Images that capture the essence of the outdoor adventure experience (i.e. what it feels like to be deep in an adventure, the emotions, the wonder of it all).
Images that "we" perhaps haven't seen before, or take an unusual or innovative look at our adventure world.
The 2010 competition report and winner are here.

In addition we told all 5 competitors that the judges would be looking for something that would make their show stand out, something unusual. You can see all 5 shows here:

http://www.shaff.co.uk/news/2011/03/11/Arcteryx_Adventure_Shot_Entries_Onli...

The other 4 are not climbing specific, but pretty darned good nonetheless. You can also see Alex Buisse's winning entry from last year here:

Already on the lookout for entries for 2012 if you are interested...

Cheers,
MattH

Quite a few shots from Waterval Boven in South Africa - recognise that red rock anywhere!

Very nice Alex, like the music a lot too.

Love the eyes at 1:58
Chris the Tall 28 Mar 2011
In reply to UKC News:
Alex - what software did you use for this ? And did you consciously place the images in order so as to fit in with the music.

As said above - the eyes at 1:58 (Nat Berry?) is a great pic, but works well with the music as well
 alex 28 Mar 2011
In reply to Chris the Tall:

It's in Photodex photoshow gold. Which seems to be pretty easy to use. I didn't have much time to pull it together, so most of the time was spent trialling free software and figuring out how to export it to work on a mac.

A few images were chosen to fit with the music and the rest just for max impact. If you had lots of time you could probably do something pretty slick.

(I might do one to promo my wedding shots too...that's what everyone else seems to use it for)

Thanks Ged! Few of you slipping in there too!

Hope you're well chief!

Superb work Alex. I've not seen better.

In reply to UKC News:

porn.

Good porn though.
 gethin_allen 28 Mar 2011
In reply to UKC News: Had to stop watching it about half way in as is was doing my nut in. Running at half speed I could just about watch it but all that zooming and panning was just silly. You don't get a chance to view the photos completely in this format.
I've seen a few of the photos as stills and they had far more impact in that format. Fewer photos (removing the poorer ones) moving slower would be better IMO.
 alex 29 Mar 2011
In reply to gethin_allen:

You need to replicate its intended viewing conditions: go into a crowded bar, have 4 pints then watch it on a big screen at 10pm at night with 4 other presentations. But yeah, I agree, for normal viewing it needs to be more relaxed.
 fire_munki 31 Mar 2011

Any chance of some of the stills in a desktop background size?
 alex 31 Mar 2011
In reply to fire_munki:

Maybe. Email me.
