There is a nesting owl 30ft up this classic route, in a deep slot above a stuck friend. The owl will fly out if disturbed (it nearly took my head off)! It has two eggs and lots of eager jackdaws are waiting for it to leave the nest for any brief time. Would be worth avoiding the route as you can't really avoid the nest site as it is on the route.

Worth letting Elfyn Jones of the Bmc know about this.

In reply to tetley: What kind of owl is it? Just out of interest.

In reply to Al Evans:

Someone said it was a Tawny Owl.

Best say away from that route till the chicks have fledged!!

In reply to Al Evans:
Tawny owl i think. Saw it fly back in once I'd moved above the hole; great sight. Not enough white on it for a barn owl (i'm not an expert though!)

In reply to tetley: Definitely a tawny.
Watched it sat in a tree 2 weeks ago when we disturbed it and again when climbing on adjacent buttress on Thursday and others (Tetley?) disturbed it.
There was a scratched rock note at the base of the route requesting people to avoid the route, presumably left by Tetley.
Had a road injured tawny at home for a while last year, in a vain attempt to nurse it back to health. One look at its claws and the size of its beak would persuade anyone not to come back in a future life as a small rodent!
