2 Day Self Rescue Course
Rock Over Climbing have teamed up with Paul Knowles (MIC) to develop a 2 day Self Rescue course.
Is it for me?
It is often fear that holds a climber back, what do when the worst happens? How to escape from a route with a casualty?
This course aims to provide the climber with the tools and skills to be self reliant at the crag environment and when climbing at more adventurous venues. We aim to use a variety of venue and techniques may be coached in a realistic situation, therefore we require participants to have a good understanding of leading and crag communication is essential. You should be happy to lead unsupervised at whatever grade you feel comfortable.
We use a combination of local venues and easily accessible crags in the North West to understand and put into practice a variety of self rescue techniques. The emphasis is on learning self rescue techniques not climbing miles of rock.
The course will cover the following areas:
- Anticipating problems
- Sound basic ropework, anchor selection, belay building and stance management
- Simple solutions for simple problems
- Strategy formation, multi pitch, single pitch
- Escaping from the system
- Use of prussiks
- Crag evacuation - Hoisting, lowering and abseiling
- Passing a knot (lower or abseil)
- Traverse problems
- Attracting help and loads more
It is very important to build on what you are already familiar with. The course will be set at a standard and pace which fits your experience and aspirations. Once a climber has mastered the basic skills, most situations can be solved using the techniques as building blocks.
All our staff are dedicated climbers and have a great depth of knowledge of the local crags. They are qualified and experienced in teaching climbing at all levels from beginners to more advanced climbers, and will be keen to pass on their knowledge to you.
