We had hoped to have access to Hoghton Crag by now but this year the peregrines are taking their time fledging the chicks. At the moment we cannot be confident that they will be fledged in time for the planned clean up day on Sunday 26th June. For this reason

THE HOGHTON CLEAN UP DAY ON SUNDAY 26TH JUNE HAS BEEN POSTPONED.

A site inspection is planned for this Friday and we may well then be able to re-schedule the clean up day for a week-end in the not very distant future. In the meantime

CLIMBERS ARE URGED IN THE STRONGEST TERMS NOT TO VISIT HOGHTON QUARRY AT ALL UNTIL OPEN ACCESS IS ANNOUNCED.

Regrettably a couple of people turned up last week-end in spite of the clear notices at the site, on UKC and on the BMC website urging people to keep away from the crag for the time being. The gamekeeper heard the noise the peregrines were making and the estate and the nature conservancy interests were alerted. This was probably a cock-up rather than deliberate disturbance but it sure didn't help the relations between climbers and the estate.

As soon as access is agreed we will be posting on UKC and emailing BMC members in the NW so watch this space.

Once formal access is announced those who have volunteered to clean up pecific routes can get cracking - they don't need to wait for the actual group clean up day.

Talking of which we still need adopt a route volunteers - check the list of routes available for your TLC on the BMC website and get in touch with either me colin@newfoundations.co.uk or Martin Kocsis at the BMC martin@thebmc.co.uk to volunteer

Thanks
