Andy Kirkpatrick – Cold Wars
October sees the launch of Andy Kirkpatrick’s new book Cold Wars, the follow-up to the award-winning Psychovertical.

Cold Wars picks up where Psychovertical finished. Andy has just descended from El Cap after soloing the Reticent Wall. It’s big news, and his professional climbing career is about to really take off. But the next few years are characterised both by his increasingly high risk climbs, and the pull of commitments – both physical and emotional – back home. Working for the RAF his brother is drawn into conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Andy must also juggle his life with his young family and his climbing obsession. The highs are there: the first repeat of the Lafaille route on the Dru, and the first winter ascent of the East Face of Mermoz in Patagonia, but Andy begins to question the price of his climbing life on his family back home.

Cold Wars Book Tour
Andy will be touring the UK in the autumn, telling stories from the book, many of which have not been heard before. Andy has carved himself a niche as the UK’s only ‘stand-up’ mountaineer, funding his dangerous trips through his outrageously one-man shows, recounting his extreme adventures with a heady mix of observational comedy and self-deprecating tales of survival. With new material prepared for the Cold Wars tour, it is a must-see for anyone with an interest in adventure.

Andy will be signing copies of Cold Wars at each event.

’Gut-wrenching, entertaining and challenging – appeals to the adventurer in all of us’
The Guardian

So an appearance will be made at (sorry to pick on you) Shrewsbury (but come on, for the outdoors you're hardly up there with...) but not Glasgow.

Not to mention (but I will) that the Greater Glasgow region has a population of 1.2 million (that's more than Edinburgh region, Inverness & Abderdeen combined) compared to Shrewsbury's 71,000.

Speakers from the Edge 15 Sep 2011
In reply to Flinticus: If you want to find us a venue that we don't have to hire, he'll come. And the folk of Shrewsbury have always been very supportive of Andy so don't dis them!
In reply to Flinticus: Glasgow's "friendly city" reputation......?

Speakers from the Edge 07 Nov 2011
In reply to Vertebrate Publishing: thanks to all who came on Friday in Hull. Just to let you know, Shrewsbury is now sold out - others are selling pretty fast so would get tickets sooner rather than later! Soz no Bristol date this time - I tried.

No Cornwall in there? Eden Project could be good
Speakers from the Edge 11 Nov 2011
In reply to Southern Man: I did ask them once! And a venue in Torquay which decided in the end that there would not be enough climbing interest in Cornwall! But if you can convince a venue manager - let me know! In the meantime, a trek to Exeter?!
