In reply to creag: That's pretty cool. At first I assumed it was a P2i-style plasma coating but another video shows that the coating is applied from an aerosol can. Predictably, the contents of the can were not revealed.

This technology won't replace waterproofs, though: these coatings don't last long (think of a typical DWR) and with sufficient force water could potentially go straight through them.

It's a bit like the oil companies backing renewable fuels. Do you think the clothes manufacturers will just walk away from trying to convince us that their new 3-layer hard shell is even better than the last one (6 months earlier) and hence relieve you of ...well....£350 plus....again.
What have we had ..... Strata,pac-lite, pro-shell, pro-active, pro-lapse...yes that's the one when you feel the bottom has fallen out of your wallet.
