Hello everybody,

I have been tasked to find a suitable jacket for a lady friend that fits the following design brief.

- waterproof
- insulated, but not Polar or high altitude spec.
- ideal for walking dogs over windswept moorland.
- Size 14 / women's medium (hope that's right!!)
- At a good price, but a quality item / brand.
- Colour, low priority !! Ha! if only, that will be the stumbling block.

Any suggestions most welcome. Maybe you have been in this situation before?
The clock is ticking as well......gulp.

Cheers, Sean.

I got a great one at TK Maxx recently. Down from £140 to £25. Am dead chuffed with it.

Sounds like Millets or Field and Trek would be good shops to start with....or just get her a voucher and she can decide herself

Yep and what she'll decide is not to speak to the OP for several weeks.

Correct, vouchers are not an option. Although several weeks of quiet reflection post Christmas may have some advantages

Sounds like something like the berghaus Calisto Insulated would be a good option. Reasonable price, perfectly waterproof/ breathable enough for dog walking, wearing around town etc and it has a nice bit of insulation without being too big or puffy looking. Berghaus kit is usually good quality too, although maybe not quite upto the standards of brands like ME, Arcteryx, rab, etc but you get what you pay for with their lower end stuff.

The TNF Resolve insulated is very similar but with a slightly lighter shell, theres not much between them though!

Hopefully thats of some help! Best of luck mate!

It's not the gift that counts, or the money spent, it's the pain and suffering gone through, which has to be seen to equal the totally unnecessary misery she puts herself through in buying presents. Now, there was a reason why I had doubts about posting on UKC under my own name... what was it??

Have you looked on the uniqlo site? They do v reasonable light down jackets that are smart but practical. They also do nice outdoor casual jackets

Thanks everybody for the lines of inquiry. UKC is a great forum for knowledge and wisdom. Cheers to Meekster,Queenie,Stuzz and Ayuplass.
Richard....I hope your understanding of the finer points of the female condition goes unnoticed for your sake.

Have y'all selves a good season.
