Job Opportunity: Two climbing wall instructors / managers - Pharaohs' Climbing Wall, Dubai, UAE
Commencing: 6th January, 2001
Ideal work experience for two climbers getting into an adventure education / outdoor adventure activities career.
Currently Dr. Mark Ashton Smith and Annie Anderson (who run www.uae-climbing.com) manage and instruct at the
Pharaohs' Club Climbing Wall, Pyramids - in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They have been running the wall
independently for the past 2 years, and will be leaving in January. They want a couple of responsible, SPA qualified
instructors (ideally a couple) who are enthusiastic about the sport (age preferably 20+) of climbing to take over
their jobs.
The Wall is located in the Pyramids, a luxury health and leisure centre in central Dubai. Dubai is a cosmopolitan, very
liberal city, with a huge ex-pat population, mainly English. For info. on Dubai check out:
http://www.dubaionline.com/ The Pharaohs' Wall only public wall in the Gulf. It is state of the art, designed by Don
Robinson. It has an 11 m. slab and a 15 m overhang with roof. It has boulders and a cave. It's basically pretty good,
but not massive. It can hold about 20 people max in public sessions. For more information on the wall browse the

Job description and terms of employment
Starting date: 7th January, 2001
Duration: 1 year (with 3 months initial trial period)
Hours: Approx 4-5 hours/day, 5 days per week. For a schedule of classes see the timetable.
Salary:Commission from classes: 55%. Typically Mark and Annie earn 10,000 Dhs / month. (i.e. approx 1,800
pounds/month combined or 900 pounds/month each). This figure may increase depending on how the climbing scene
expands.
