Hi,
I'm planning a trip to the Badile/Bernina area in Switzerland. A friend who'll join me there will need to buy some gear (mountaineering shoes, crampons and perhaps some other items).
Could you recommend shops with a good selection that are within a reasonable driving distance? Equipment rental is also an option.
We will be driving in from Milano, so there or anywhere along the way (say, Lecco) will also be good.

There's a Decathlon in Milan, which should have everything you need. I'm sure there are others too.

There's gear shops in Chiavenna.

Lecco shops would have a bigger selection, though.

In Switzerland, the best shop in my experience is Govertical in Pontresina. That said, it is significantly more expensive than Italy - however, the service is great and it is run by guides who have a good awareness of equipment requirements. It is also the best place in the valley for conditions reports.
