Can anyone recommend me a super bright torch for using around the garden/fields? I was thinking of a maglight - but need something that will light up across a field and not eat batteries.

Thanks!

So powerful, it will cook eggs. Should do the trick.

In reply to AnnaSpanna: some p7 thing from dealextreme - have a search on here for comments re bike lights (they are hand held torches tho) - silly bright they are.

Have a look at the Fenix range, not cheap but excellent quality.

In reply to AnnaSpanna: I recently picked up a LED Lenser P5 and have been pretty impressed, much brighter than my old maglite and pretty impressive battery life claims

supernova jetstream. Rechaegeable bike headlight shaped like a hand torch, so double use.

Rob makes very special small high power torches.

The 5 minute battery life is a bit of a downer.

Get one with decent power control. Some are available with continuously variable power control, including a very, very low output 'find me' mode. If only I could remember which model I saw someone demo on a UKC picnic...

Whilst LEDs are getting increasingly efficient, if you want very bright, I'm afraid you have to pay for it in reduced battery life. Hence the suggestion of decent power control for when you don't need to BBQ your retinas.

Fenix TK35 is what I have, brighter than a car headlamp and smaller than a pint can of larger.
