I was reading my guide today for a route called caesar's nose at the dewerstone and it mentioned stepping right onto a hanging RIB and was wondering what a rib is, i understand most stuff in guides and terms they use but neither me or my partner could work out what a rib was and was wondering if anyone could inform me
Cheers Simon

In reply to SimonMarcYoung:

You may well get some diverse answers to this one but I have always believed a 'rib' to be like a blunt arete (another phrase commonly used). Or a vaguely linear feature which is more rounded than an arete. If you see what I mean.
In reply to SimonMarcYoung: I assumed it meant a linear feature that is prominent on a flat wall like a tufa but bigger in scale.
aww ok i sorta get the general idea of what it is now and makes sense with the route as well
