/ msr filter
I have an MSR sweetw*ter filter which I used while trekking/backpacking around Asia in 2008. When I got back from Asia I just put it in a box in the attic and forgot about it... I didn't look at the best way to store it or anything.
I used it a while ago and lots of charcoal pieces were coming through with the filtered water.
I'm hoping this is only a minor problem? I know the charcoal filter doesn't remove bacteria anyway so am just eventually expecting all of the charcoal to come out and it will be good as new? (minus the charcoal filter of course).
Also, will my method of storage have compromised the ceramic filter at all?
They're designed to come apart for field servicing so I'd strip it all down and check it over. You should be able to get any required replacement bits easily through Cascade, the MSR distributor.
