Which hostels in Huaraz would you recommend staying in? ones that arent too expensive and popular with trekkers or climbers

In reply to oren02: Jo's place. Very friendly guy resonable rates went with a large group it was 20 sol per person per night. He has an enclosed courtyard where he allows camping not sure of the rates.

We also stayed at Aldo's which is part of Galaxia expedition. It's ok but a bit miserable that was again 20 sol per person per night

Another vote for Jo's place....particularly if you're travelling alone, it's a good place to meet other climbers and trekkers.

Aldo's has been spruced-up recently, and isn't too bad..

I stayed in The Way Inn Lodge (http://thewayinn.com ) in 2006. great location for a few days walking out of Huaraz.

Other than that, in Huaraz itself - Albergue Cherup (http://www.churup.com )

THe Casa de Guia in the centre is handy.

Way Inn (and ALlexs and Bruni's other place up in the hills) are very good

Jo's place is something of an institutionand deseverdly popular.

In reply to oren02: Yep another vote for Way Inn we camped there it was about 6 sol per night. We did get bitten to death so take lots of bug spray for there don't know if it was something in the grass.
It was last month I was there so if Aldo's had been done up I'm glad I didn't stay in it before.

I'm jealous wherever you stay, I LOVE Huaraz. You'll have a great time!

In reply to oren02: Joe's place is friendly and reasonable with a mix of camping, dorm or private rooms. Very jealous, really fancy hitting Cafe Andino for a T-Rex Burrito and a milkshake right now!
