 Topic - Rock shoes losing grip!(?)

Had my scarpa forces for nearly three years now. Over the past few weeks the soles (especially at the toe) have become very smooth. The rubber doesn't exfoliate if I rub the toes now.
Wondering if it's cos of too much use, or dirt? Could I sand them down to get the roughness back?
Anyone experienced this before?
