Returning to cham this year and we're hoping to climb the normal route on Dent du Geant.

The route is lined with fixed ropes which I'm new to, I'm wondering if it's normal practice to use the rope attachments as handy runners for quickdraws (presumably there are lots of big bolts/rings that the ropes run through).

In reply to JimboWizbo: Yes. You can also wrap slings round the ropes like giant prussiks if you need to. I believe there is abseil piste that starts from between the two summits. Otherwise you will be abseiling over people coming up, which (believe me) is pain for all involved.

In reply to MG: Plan is to abseil down the back (3 abseils?)

Putting slings around the ropes sounds like an idea, although if you fell and the sling ran down the rope I guess there would be some risk.

Cheers

Yes, but with a snug prussik knot they won't move.

In reply to JimboWizbo: Good point.

Does anybody else get excited for summer Alps trips this early?
