Reading this on bbc left me confused.

After leaving Downing Street she went with Foreign Secretary William Hague to the Foreign Office, where it was announced that the southern part of the British Antarctic Territory had been named.

The Foreign Office said there was a precedent - there was already a Princess Elizabeth Land in East Antarctica,

I can understand having a southern bit of an Antarctic territory. But how is eastern Antarctica defined? I would struggle to point east if I was at the South Pole.

Presumably it's relative to the Greenwich Meridian, which defines east and west.
