In reply to Michael MacArthur: Peglers are a long-standing, small family-run business in Arundel. The climbing side is run by Dave Pegler who, in addition to being a really friendly and helpful bloke, is a rather talented climber and alpinist.
I spent £850 there in 2003 buying kit for the Alps and most recently picked up a few bits of kit from them this Summer when I was working in the South Downs National Park.
They don't carry a massive stock of climbing gear and being a small family concern I don't think they have the fancy online stock control systems of bigger firms. However, they are most certainly the sort of place that if you phone them up you will be able to speak to someone who is a knowledgeable climber and will be more than happy to help.
They don't generally compete on headline price on individual items, but I would say they are one of the best independent shops when it comes to buying a large amount of kit. In the past they have always being willing to give a worthwhile discount to large orders. IIRC, Dave was happy give me a 20% on the mountaineering kit I bought in 2003.
