Hi Everyone.
I'm pretty new to climbing (4 weeks once a week) and looking for advice in more of the techincal side of things.
I indoor climb at the moment but would love to know more about where to find articles on techniques and positioning.

If anyone could help me out it would be great

Also, happy to answer any questions people have about how i've started or gear types i'm using if it helps point me in the right direction

The BMC climbing wall essentials dvd might be useful. I havent seen it personally but it says that it covers technique along with other skills.

Hi,

You seem to be in a similar position to myself as a new climber I have been indoor climbing for about 6 monthes and have tried a little Bouldering. I am looking to improve my technique and any tips / tools are welcome.

Hi Bextables35 and Goateedave
Yes dvd’s are a good way to start.
Do you have a climbing club at your local climbing wall. I was lucky enough to find a really good climbing club with great people who like to help improve your climbing techniques and give you that push to try and try again.

I started like we always do on top rope. But it was once I move to lead climbing I found my technique started to build and flow more. It is a big step to overcome, so much runs through your mind it’s only natural. Just make sure you trust your belay partner and that do your safety checks and take some falls. It builds trust in the gear and helps you concentrate.
As for equipment comfortable well fitting harness you don’t have to spend a lot for comfort. Also Rock shoes tight fitting are best so there is very little dead space around your foot. There are hundreds the best advice would be to go to a rock climbing shop somewhere that’s not going to sell you any old shoe. My latest pair took about an hour to decide on but the guy in the shop was a climber so was very knowledgeable.
Goateedave: I see your local ish to Milton Keynes, if you go to big rock in Milton Keynes have chat with the guys there Andy the Duty manager is a great guy knows his stuff.

Hope this is useful and doesn’t sound like a ramble haha

Anymore questions let me know

+1 for the Neil Gresham climbing masterclass DVDs. Also get out on rock as soon as possible (if you're intending to become an outdoor climber) - the technique tends to be rather different from climbing on plastic.

Thank you for the advice. Will be moving outdoors this year. I am lucky to have the support of a good instructor/experienced climber at my climbing wall. Only manage to get climbing once a week so I am making progrees but slower than I would like.
