1. Eyes: make sure they're firmly glued to your smart phone screen. Preferably wear a hoody to reduce peripheral vision.

2. Ears: headphones are mandatory at all times.

3. Make sure you have your back to the traffic.

4. Don't stop, turn round, or give any indication that you intend to cross the road.

5. Step out into the road.

6. Any motorist or cyclist who has to swerve or brake to avoid you is at fault, and MUST be sworn at.

7. If you have children with you, ensure you are obeying points 1-3 & remember that the children should be the first into the road. You should not be paying sufficient attention to make any attempt to stop them, and it should be stressed that in this situation, point 6 is doubly important.

Didn't have to change much there and it's 20 years ago.
