Lightworks is apparently quite good.
You could also download Adobe Premiere, I believe you got a month's free trial before you need to pay for it.
All about adobe premier, better to learn a pro level program than faff around with a free consumer one.

Looked into Vegas....giving it a shot :) ...cheers Kev!
Avid or FCP for me. Easy enough to get the basics sorted, and it sets you up for much more advanced editing in the future.
