As the title says really. Im in the market for a new pair of sotshell trousers which will be used mainly for winer climbing, so not interested in any lightwight options.
Any recommendations are appreciated.
Budget of £120 ish!

In reply to vincentvega: The Simond ones from Decathlon. They're excellent and cost 40 quid, so you'd have a spare 80 for petrol to Scotland or N Wales. Simples!

I got some at Xmas and have used them for numerous days ice climbing and skiing since. I will do a proper review of them on my blog soonish but simply put: bloody excellent for the money.

In reply to vincentvega: Can't comment on others, but I have been using Haglofs Rando Pants for winter mountaineering and ski touring this season and last.

They're comfy, warm and do what softshell is supposed to do - I can't remember putting Mr Gore's finest over them at all, but do tend to just wear some form of legging with gore-tex trousers if its looking mild / wet at high levels.

Second those Simond trousers from Decathlon. Insane value for money.

In reply to vincentvega: Although I haven't yet bought the Decathlon trs. I would agree on the pedigree. Two clients have worn them as their 'first' winter trousers for the very reasons already written and in my view they chose well. In 30mph+ winds and seriously blasting spindrift they didn't feel uncomfortable nor did they have to wear any o/trs as the snows were generally dry powder (....and 'yes' I know there will be some who will want to pick a fight over my description of snow being 'dry' but let's not go there, eh?)

Cant fault rab exodus softshell pants, good vents and pockets etc. Used for skiing and winter walking and climbing and found them to be brilliant.
Sizes are abit wacky so try before you buy!!

In reply to vincentvega: Well, my Mammut Champ Pants in Schoeller Dryskin Extreme fabric are still going strong after nearly ten years of use (and some minor repairs to tears from poor crampon technique).

Things have moved on but Mammut are definitely still worth a look.

i have a pair of Haglofs Col soft shells, very comfy, great fit and awsome ROM.
also have North Face Randonee bib havent had them out yet but feel really good to wear but are a bit pricey!

In reply to vincentvega: I had Mammut trousers that lasted over 10 years but I think they cost me well over £100 even then. Just bought and used the £39.99 Simond ones from Decathlon and while I can't comment on how long they will last they do feel just as good.

In reply to vincentvega: Mountain Equipment ibex are great. Can fit over big boots and can be cinched down for smaller ones.
Can be found for less online and then you can price match in the shops.

The Simond/Quechua mountaineering trousers from Decathlon fit over alpine ski boots, yes. With, as said above, side zip, velcro adjust strap and internal gaiter.

In reply to Aigen: They fit easily over my T2s, so don't imagine it would be so different over trad touring boots, let alone the skinny new school style.

Decathlon have a deal on for a light down jacket but with lycra/thin fleece arms. Very good to allow full movement and not restrictive. I use it Snowboarding but it folds into it's chest pocket and is very light, so I take it winter climbing/walking too. Good for keeping your core warm.

I recently got a pair of Montane Terra Thermostretch, and I like them.
Nicely warm, good movement, very water and wind resistant. Big zips down the sides for lots of cooling if you overheat. Go Outdoors have them on sale.

Yer Montane are good, Im on my second pair of Terra XTs which ive worn for all sorts of things - comfy, virtually wterproof (well, ive never got wet), warm and hard wearing
