/ Kevin Ayers RIP
"You can't shine if you don't burn."
I bought 'Joy of a Toy'and 'Bananamour' in the seventies, loved them but like most of my LPs, they gathered dust in the loft. Saw a programme on TV about him recently, and last week I bought the CD of 'Joy of a Toy', and I've been listening to it all this last week. He was very original, very English, maybe what Syd Barrett would have ended up like.
Shooting at the Moon is my favourite, probably because it's the first I heard. David Bedford, another of the band (and better known as a 'classical' composer) also died recently.
Sounds like Gideon Coe is playing a lot of his stuff on 6music tonight
Shooting at the Moon is the one I remember best, we had a copy in the school record library a bunch of us set up in the sixth form
