Hi, I'm on a tight budget (no definite limit but don't want to spend a fortune).

I feel I need a polarizer and a ND filter but don't know what to buy. It needs to be 77mm to fit my largest lens then will buy step up adapters for my smaller lenses. Have been looking at these;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hoya-Digital-Circular-Polarizing-Filter/dp/B000KKVF...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cokin-H270A-Full-Filter-Kit/dp/B004ULMY0O/ref=sr_1_...

Are these any good? Does anyone have an suggestions of others (possibly even cheaper)?

Thanks for any help

In reply to phja: Cokin do a circular polariser which fits the p mount which comes with the filter set . A bit cheaper is the Kood version

In reply to phja:
The NDs that you're looking at are notorious for giving a colour cast.

Lee are good but ££££.

Have a look at hitech. Good revues and sensible prices.

Think also about glass vs plastic.

Those are 'Full' N.D filters, graduated are more useful imho, what are you mainly using them for?
You can pick up a polariser on the web quite cheaply.
Wouldn't get too worried about colour casts, an easy fix in PS nowadays.

In reply to dek:

Will mostly be using them for waterfalls and the beach for getting water motion. Not looking for ND grad atm since I can cheat (camera has HDR function or can stack 2 images of different exposures).

I have no experience of post processing...how easy is easy lol...if I shoot RAW can I just change the white balance?

Anyone have any idea as to the quality of this?

Thanks!

In reply to phja:

If you have decent software then fixing minor colour casts is easy. HDR stacking can be problematic with moving things like water, though the software is a lot better than it used to be.

In reply to phja: buy a set of cokin filters with the right mounting rings for your lenses e.g. 77mm. get the full ND's you need, but if your using a wide angle which i assuming you are with a 77mm thread you will also need to get the cokin wide angle holder to remove problems with the distance between the lens and filter.

ive got a set of cokins that are great and they end up being cheaper than buying the same filter for each lens.

In reply to phja: I have cokin soft grads and hitech hard ones. The cokins have slightly more magenta in them than the hitech. Really only an issue if you stack more than one filter. Especially bad for some reason if you mix hitech with cokin.
Lee are the best but too much for my wallet.
For a polariser then the Hoya is fine

In reply to HarmM: the 77mm thread isn't necessarily wide angle, most mid range pro quality telephoto lenses have a thread of this size.

In reply to phja: the polariser would prob be ace for what you need. if yiu search on amazon you can get a nd filter that adjusts in steps from 4 upto 200
In reply to phja: I just bought a 77mm polariser off ebay UK for a very reasonable price.
