As it says on the tine, except maybe "word processing" is a little over-stating it - all I really need is something that will accept text, allow me to a little formatting, and export to Word (via email? syncing?) so I can do more with it on my desktop.

Pages in conjunction with Dropbox is a pretty flexible combination. Also consider Google Docs - cloud based, support collaborative working, and can be downloaded in .doc format when required
