He did make those comments, but they were before that accident, in a press release which was warning about the conditions in general, not in response to that incident. They have been used out of context.
In reply to tobykeep: If so thats a disgusting piece of journalism. It's making the victims sound incapable and unprepared with no basis on fact.

I thought it was unusual for MRT to criticise the people that they were called out to.
Just goes to show the importance of context!
And treating press reports with a degree of suspicion.
