In reply to UKC News: Think there have been a spate of these in Cumbria over the easter hols as well. Could be wrong but sure it was on local news.

In reply to UKC News:

How can the cost of the damage be so high?
 graeme jackson 11 Apr 2013
In reply to estivoautumnal:
Insurance scam.
Sarah G 11 Apr 2013
In reply to estivoautumnal: I suspect it isn't an actual 'cost', but rather the 'value' of the destroyed crop.

New trees have been planted on the whole area of the past year or 2 I think. Not cheap...

Many trees will survive a fire. I think it's a figure plucked from the air.

Do you know how much it costs to establish native woodland or are you just plucking quotes from the air?

In reply to timjones:

No. I used to work for Tillhill forestry. I have a fairly good idea.
 NottsRich 11 Apr 2013
In reply to estivoautumnal: Cost of the emergency services as well?
estivoautumnal 11 Apr 2013
In reply to NottsRich:

Yes, that's possible. But that won't be billed to BA.

There's been an arrest:

"Police have arrested a 39 year old man in connection with an investigation into a hill fire at Glen Tarbet on the 1st April 2013. The man is expected to appear at Fort William Sheriff Court on Monday 15th April 2013. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

So how much do you reckon it costs per hectare to plant native woodland?

 Colin Moody 12 Apr 2013
In reply to Toby S:

There have been many many fires.

Glen Nevis fire was around the 9th.

Glen Tarbert was around the 2nd.
 Colin Moody 14 Apr 2013
In reply to AlH:

Looks like a much smaller area than the fire on Mull last week.
 AlH 14 Apr 2013
In reply to Colin Moody: And substantially smaller than the one in my back yard on Corpach Hill. As you say a small example of the many recent fires in Scotland.

In reply to AlH:

Thought these photos were impressive.

Sorry about the Mail, but I found it with a search!

In reply to Colin Moody: Yes I got a bus in the evening in the town centre and looked over to see that view right above my house. A tense couple of hours before the excellent efforts of the local retained and full time emergency services got it under control. Have to say that is the best spread of pics I've seen of it.
