Hi, I am putting together a family trip to Bourg Saint Maurice this summer for some biking, rafting, via ferrata etc. I have heard that it is possible to hire harnesses, helmets and via ferrata lines/kit from the local supermarket. Can anyone confirm this or suggest other suppliers, thanks dave.

Make sure they are not one of the many, many, sets that have been recalled.

Bear in mind that even _with_ a presumably safe, non-recalled VF kit, taking a fall on a via ferrata route generally is significantly more dangerous than a Leader fall in belayed sport climbing. I've actually seen somebody get hurt in a fall on a difficult VF route.

It's important to work you up progessively thru the difficulty grades, not get into a route that's beyond your ability. Falling is a bad idea.
