The story is some Italian soldiers are being held at a prisoner of war camp in Kenya. The camp is located below Mount Kenya, the peak is in full view of the soldiers. A few of them are also climbers, they hatch a plan, escape and climb the peak. To do this they have to improvise all their climbing gear and evade the British Army and Kenyan Police. After the climb they hand themselves in and sit out the war. They wrote a book about it that was published in English but I can't remember the title. can anyone help?

In reply to OwenM: It's been a film too, I think it might have been called 'The Mountain' but I'm not sure.

Looks rather heavily fictionalised and a cheap made-for-tv job, also very obscure. The long glowing review naming loads of crew members is obviously a studio plant. The DVD artwork shown is from a totally different film of the same name.
