Hi guys, heading out to Chamonix in the 3rd week of April to do a course, then my partner is coming over for the last week to get some routes in. Having never touched a 'proper' mountain or the wet stuff before I think a course is a good idea... Looking to do 5 days ideally. Any reccomendations please? There seems to be absolutely loads of different operators. Thanks in advance

In reply to Cheese Monkey: OK, that we can work with! Not based in Chamonix but easily reached, you would not go wrong with ISM, e.g. http://www.alpin-ism.com/CourseSelect/shortlist.cfm?AddDateID=1441

Any BMG should do the job. The local french guides don't have a great reputation, they tend just to drag you up routes apparently. I've also seen some of them walking across glaciers un-roped next to clients. However I'm sure there are plenty of good ones.

Rich Cross of Alpine Guides is a nice chap.

Alan Kimber and co also do trips out to the Alps.

James Thacker is really good.
