Planning to clip a few bolts tomorrow for a change, but not quite sure where to go. I've heard there are some decent crags for onsight (or failing to onsight, but you know what I mean) sport climbing up in the Dales.

Which venue would folks recommend?

Trow Gill (dry?)
Giggleswick (a bit crap?)

That crag up above Goredale? Go up to Chapel Head? or somewhere else entirely?

Cheers,
Jon

Has a few starred routes on the database but I don't have a guidebook. Might explore somewhere a bit more mainstream first, but ta.

if you fancy pushing into the low 7s how about Trollers. The Jim Grin is very onsightable and the route to the right also.

There are some 6s there too...not great routes, but worthwhile.

In reply to Jon Stewart: Robin Proctors? Some choss, but about 5 good routes together in the 6's that are solid and great outlook.

I've not been, so I can't judge but I've kind of gathered that impression from the guidebook, pictures and reports. Short 'n' chossy?

Your assumptions about giggleswick are correct in my opinion.
Trollers is good, robin proctors if you want more around the 6a+ mark (good routes at that grade but only a handful 6c and over.

Gigg S and N are ok - some good routes amongst the masses.
Proctors a small set f good routes good setting
Moughton - nice place but only about 3 inches high Panorama likewise
Trollers - some good 6's - probably the best of the ones here

Thanks for the suggestions, went to Trollers and it was alright. Just ended up redpointing a route which was OK. Nice place and usual limestone whathaveyou.
