Planning a trip for me and a few non-climbers (all fit enough though) for sometime this summer. Aiming to start at Ennerdale YHA, walk up the valley and then a walk/scramble up Pillar (not Pillar Rock). Is there a mod or diff pitch we could top out with? Nothing steep or intimidating, just a single pitch worth putting a rope on for.

Any ideas?

In reply to Alex Purser: If your group have steady heads then a good day out is to Go up to Scarth Gap and then locate start of High Level Traverse and go over to Robinson's Cairn. The along Shamrock Traverse where there is a bad step (scene of some nasty accidents in past - so judgement call before you go on the capabilities of your group). You will arrive at Pillar Rock with Pisgah and Jordan Gap to the left. You can scramble up to the top of Pisgah as this is very short - but airy for non-climbers. Then finish off by going up onto Pillar Mountain and follow ridge along westwards over Black Crag & Scoat Fell before picking up a track to take you back down to Ennerdale.
