Hi all,

I am going to New Zealand in November for a few months, origionally I was going with someone but due to a change in circumstances they have had to pull out.

I was wondering if there is anyone/group of people who are intending/interested on heading out there around the same time or who will already be out there and needs a climbing partner, some one to share fuel/rent with. I'm pretty easy going and looking to travel explore and climb.

If not can anyone recommend any climbing change outs in NZ? Any good chill out local areas??

Any info would be great .

In reply to Gemma *G*: If you don't end up finding other people to come with don't worry - you'll find plenty of people to climb with once you're here. Check out 'Hangdog Takaka' on Google. It's a small friendly campsite about 10 mins walk from one of the largest sports climbing areas in NZ, at the top end of the South Island. At that time of year you'll find plenty of people hanging out and almost certainly be able to find people to travel on the rest of your trip with.

Maybe, though depends what sort of climbing. There's plenty of rock where I live but not much snow or mountains, so alpine stuff in NZ attracts me. Given I don't know much was considering a bit if time in a course then a bit of time doing easy objectives (up to grade 2 perhaps) would be cool. Courses are pricy, though sans much existing skill seems the safer option.

I spent 17 years in NZ so know bits of the place, and have friends here and there.

hi, i live and work in nelson, top of the south island and am lucky to know most of the local climbers. If you pass through, call in at the local climbing wall and we will point you in the right direction.

When you get to north island drop me an email. Girlfriend and I would be happy to go for a climb with you.

Hi there, I live in Auckland which isn't exactly the meca of NZ climbing but always happy to go for day trips to some of the local crags with people. If you are in town when you land looking for a car or whatever give me a shout. As someone already mentioned bring all the gear you need as its very pricey here.
This is a pretty good read on a 6 month climbing trip around NZ http://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/page.php?id=24

Oh and make sure you don't have any mud on your gear, it can be a $400 fine at the airport if you don't declare sports gear that may have earth on!
